Kimchi House: First Korean restaurant in Mauritius.

Hi guys πŸ™‚Β
Just another quick post about a restaurant I recently went to: Kimchi House.
If you’ve never heard of it, Kimchi House is an authentic Korean restaurant and Hotel run by a Korean couple. I have no idea how or why they are here in Mauritius hahaha but I am glad they are. My craving for Korean things (including Kpop, Kdramas, etc) has been satisfied.
They are found on corner of Newton and Queen Street, Port Louis. Here is their number if you want to call to reserve: (230) 2160988 or (230) 7172689.
I think this was my 5th time there and I must say all times have been pleasant. I can’t really fault them on anything except maybe for this one waiter they had. He was the type of waiter that would take away your plate before you could even finish what was on it or try to persuade you to order something you don’t want. HAHA but when we went today, he wasn’t there!! We were actually relieved. And with him gone, the owner of the restaurant was much more involved with the clients which was really cool πŸ˜€
One more thing that is really awesome is that they sometimes play kpop in the restaurant. So if you’re a kpop fan, you’ll go crazy there πŸ˜›

Very authentic right?? Can’t seem to manage with the flat korean chopsticks tho ;-;
There’s the grill in the middle of the table, still with the lid on.
Very appropriate haha! πŸ˜€
Unflattering picture of me. It’s PL so you’ll have to excuse the sweaty look πŸ˜›
> Coke
We had no idea what these knobs were. We kept touching on them haha
The lid taken off by the waitress! That’s where you cook the meat πŸ˜€
Amazingly seasoned raw beef (180g per portion)
The beef (bulgogi) is served with a plate of lettuce and the little garnishes you see on the left. I think the right way to eat it is to put a piece of cooked beef on a lettuce leaf, add sauce + garnishes, close it up and there you have your lettuce wrap! πŸ˜€ And you then have to stuff the whole thing in your mouth. I think it is considered rude in S.Korea if you don’t haha!
Beef + pork on the grill
SO YUMMY
Beef Β > pork though. Pork was too fatty.
It’s so fun to cook your own food Β πŸ˜€
Bowl of rice… Duh
Mmmm, you want it right?
Korean seafood pancake. We always order it when we go there. It is always served with a little bowl of soy sauce.
Sweet and spicy fried chicken. SO YUM if you like spicy food. WE ALWAYS ALWAYS take this dish too πŸ˜€
This was our first time so we may (or may not) have (ever so slightly) burnt the meat.
Here’s my lettuce wrap. Now tell me that doesn’t look yummy
The owner was SO kind. He gave us a complimentary bowl of kimchi!!
So yeah… We ordered more beef afterwards.

  1. Hi πŸ™‚
Do you know whether they serve the typical korean spicy rice cakes? Really want to try it after watching Gag Concert for so long on KBS World!
Glad to see i'm not the only one who's a great fan of the korean culture :3

  2. Hi Ikhlaas πŸ™‚
    Thanks for your comment.
Unfortunately, I don't think they do but I haven't been there in a long time.
Maybe you could try phoning to ask and possibly they'll make it specially for you on order.
Yes, it's great that the kpop/culture fan base has grown immensely in Mauritius over the years πŸ™‚
    Have a nice evening!

  3. Hello Shivani,
If I can remember correctly, the different dishes varied between Rs150-450 but
my last visit there was 3 years ago unfortunately so I don't know if the prices are the same.

LOL we totally had that same waiter hahah!! He was so odd!! He kept turning the pages on my wife’s menu in super hurried fashion, while she was holding the menu looking confused haha!!

Love the blog! Just discovered it last night during a bout of insomnia, we’re heading back to Mauritius soon, few weeks time, happy to hear that there’s a Greek restaurant there now!! Keep up the great work!

    best, jay
